Sony FS5 Grab & Shoot 4K Super35 Camera

The Sony FS5 goes places my bigger Sony F5 can't.

This Sony FS5 camera has the same sensor as my Sony F5 camera. I use optically colour matched Fujinon Cine lenses on my F5 and FS5 cameras, so images intercut seamlessly.

Described a grab and shoot camera, it captures from HD up to Ultra 4K (3840 x 2160) the standard used for shooting 4K television.

It's significantly smaller and lighter than the F5 is, but still has the F5 impressive super35 image sensor which gives a nice film like shallow depth of focus.

Highlights:

4K Super 35 Exmor® sensor
14 stops of exposure latitude
Exceptional sensitivity with a base rate of ISO 3200 in S-LOG3
Continuous slow-motion of 120 frames per second in Full HD

Lenses

Fujinon MK 18-55mm Cine Zoom, T2.9

The Fujinon MK18-55mm T2.9 is a lightweight Super35 Cine zoom that covers the standard used focal lengths from 18mm to 55mm; wide-angle to portrait.

The 18-55mm is optically stunning and fast becoming known as the ‘Cabrio light’ as resolution and contrast match seamlessly with the Cabrio line of lenses. It’s colour-matched to my Cabrio 20-120mm cine lens but weighs just one-third of the bigger Cabrio.

The FS5 Centre Scan can turn this lens into a 36mm to 110mm lens without any quality drop when shooting HD.

Features:

  • Constant T2.9 aperture throughout the zoom range
  • 9 iris blades for attractive bokeh
  • Minimal to no focus breathing
  • Parfocal
  • 200° focus barrel rotation and 120° zoom rotation
  • Macro focus function
  • 0.8 Pitch gear focus, iris, and zoom rings

Veydra 25mm Mini Cine Prime, T2.2

Veydra Mini Primes are are true cine lenses built for cinema acquisition, they are not re-housed photo lenses. Colour rendition is outstanding and image quality rivals other much more expensive cinema lenses. Veydra lenses optically colour match, incredibly well with my Cabrio 20-120mm and Fujinon MK18-55mm cine zooms.

Features:

  • Exceeds 4K resolution
  • Close focus of 10-inches from image plane
  • Ten-blade iris for a smooth, circular bokeh
  • Focus breathing, minimal or none
  • 0.8 module focus and iris gears
  • High quality metal housing

Sony 10-18mm Ultra-wide angle zoom, f/4

This ultra-wide angle lens gives familiar images an unfamiliar perspective. Ordinary subjects become oddly interesting when shot with ultra wide lenses. Great for shooting people where you want to see the environment they are in.

Features:

  • Fits directly onto the FS5 camera without adaptors
  • Constant f/4 maximum aperture throughout the zoom range
  • Built in optical SteadyShot image stabilization
